Online Offer of the “Introductory R Statistical Course”: an Experience Report

This manuscript reports on the experience of offering a course on the statistical software R. The initiative originated from some members of the Grupo de Estudo e Pesquisa em Geografia Física e Dinâmicas Socioambientais and was conducted remotely for the group itself, as well as for external participants recommended by current members. The training utilized Google platform tools (Classroom, Forms, and Meet) and included two synchronous sessions along with asynchronous activities, totaling 12 hours. Of the 22 participants initially enrolled, only 10 fulfilled all the prerequisites to receive certification. Despite the low completion rate, around 45.5%, the proposal can be considered a success given the positive feedback provided by the participants who completed the course. Thus, it is suggested to continue exploring tools that support Remote Teaching and Distance Education to increasingly expand the possibilities for sharing knowledge produced, within and outside scientific study and research groups.
