Social distancing and quarantine, restrictive public health measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, have impacted educational systems. The realization of remote classes has caused many discussions among educators, especially about the use of Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT). Thus, the aim is to know the integration process of DICT by higher education teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic and to discuss the challenges and possibilities perceived in the face of the need for remote teaching. Cross-sectional study, with an exploratory-descriptive approach. Of the 48 teachers who participated in the study, 29 (60.4%) reported having prior knowledge about DICT. The use of virtual learning environments and online classrooms intensified significantly after the start of the pandemic. The main perceived difficulties are the lack of motivation, compatible internet and knowledge. There is still a lack of public and institutional policies that guidelines the needs for a complete and efficient integration of DICT in higher education.
