Development and Validation of a Distance Education Course on Humanization of Birth and Neonatal Care

This study describes the development and validation process of an asynchronous Distance Education (DE) course on the humanization of birth from the perspective of neonatal care, entitled "Science and Love at Birth: A New Look at Childbirth and Baby Reception". The study was motivated by the persistence of interventionist practices in the context of childbirth and birth, as well as by the challenges related to incorporating approaches centered on the physiological and relational needs of the newborn during the transition to extrauterine life. In addition, it sought to broaden access for pregnant women and families to evidence-based information related to good practices in newborn care in the delivery room. The objective was to develop and validate an educational technology focused on health education about safe and respectful neonatal care. Methods: This is a methodological study of technological production and content and appearance validation. The course development was based on the principles of Instructional Design and included bibliographic research, the creation of video lessons, and validation by experts and the target audience. Professionals with experience in the maternal-infant area and pregnant women/family members participated in the validation. The Content Validity Index (CVI) was used for quantitative evaluation. The results demonstrated high agreement among the evaluators regarding the clarity, relevance, and organization of the content, with a satisfactory CVI in the evaluated domains. The target audience reported adequate understanding of the information presented and a positive perception regarding the applicability of the course. Conclusion: The developed course presented adequate content and appearance validity for use in educational actions related to humanized neonatal care, configuring itself as a potentially useful educational technology for health education of pregnant women and family members.
