The New Drugs of the 21st Century: Teachers' Perceptions about Gambling in Distance Education

Abstract

This article presents a report on experiences from discussions held in the forum of the "Education for Digital Coexistence" course, part of the CECIERJ Foundation's continuing education program for teachers. The reflections were guided by two questions posed to the course participants and analyzed in this article through discourse analysis from the perspective of Mikhail Bakhtin. The results indicate that most course participants identified gambling houses as their main focus of consumer interest, highlighting the role of influencers in building an image of trust through interactive approaches and the display of material goods. The theoretical framework and the data analyzed highlighted the importance of discussing gambling as digital drugs, capable of generating dependence similar to that caused by chemical drugs. It is essential to adopt educational strategies in the fields of Biosciences and Health, considering the biopsychosocial and cultural contexts of individuals. It’s crucial to implement pedagogical practices that promote awareness of the critical use of these bets and digital technologies.
