Abstract

The Brazilian Federal Police offers distance (e-learning) courses to train and specialize public security professionals. This study investigated self-regulated learning (SRL) characteristics in a population of 2,579 graduates from a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the corporate platform ANP.net. Using the Online Self-Regulated Learning Questionnaire (OSLQ), a statistically significant sample was obtained (n=335; 70.00% male; mean age 46.18 years). The overall reliability analysis of the original instrument showed high internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha α=0.894). For validation in a new context, a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicated the need for model adjustments. The re-specified 19-item model demonstrated adequate fit indices (Cronbach's Alpha α=0.884; χ²/df = 1.857; RMSEA = 0.051; GFI = 0.920) , confirming its plausibility for this novel sample. The results indicate that: (1) the adoption of metacognitive strategies is the most frequent; (2) there are significant differences in SRL strategies between students with higher and lower OSLQ scores; and (3) there is a positive correlation between higher scores and course approval. The data reinforce that supporting SRL can enhance student performance in corporate e-learning environments.
