Abstract

The Dental pre-triage system (STO), developed by the FOUERJ team, aims to improve patient access to dental services at undergraduate clinics by optimizing the care flow and adapting to the academic profile. In this study, the STO was used for online pre-triage, conducted prior to the in-person consultation. The software, duly registered with the INPI, was applied in 2023 to a sample of 185 individuals affiliated with different academic units of UERJ. During the in-person consultation, the information provided through the STO was compared with the anamnesis and physical examination conducted by students and dentists. The use of Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) showed potential to facilitate data collection, improve diagnosis, and make care more efficient. The STO represents a step forward in modernizing and increasing accessibility in clinical processes, benefiting both patients and students. The sample was predominantly female (77.8%), with the most common age group being 21 to 30 years old. There was a 62.16% match between the self-reported information and the clinical evaluation. The most requested procedures included restorations, fillings, and cleanings. About 40% of the patients were referred to specific FOUERJ clinics, such as Radiology, Integrated Centers, and Stomatology. Cases not aligned with the undergraduate profile were guided on where to seek care. The implementation of the STO at UERJ expands access, enhances the quality of dental care, and strengthens the integration between education and healthcare. Despite some challenges, its further development may help reduce inequalities in oral health in Brazil.
