Mapping Tools for Circular Economy: Suggestions for Application in Distance Learning Engineering Courses

This article presents a mapping of circular economy (CE) tools aimed at developing educational materials and activities for distance education (DE) in engineering courses. Based on a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) conducted on the Scopus and Web of Science databases, 42 articles discussing practical CE tools were identified. These tools include models for circularity assessment, decision support, circular design, implementation in supply chains, and training, providing a foundation for engineering educators to adapt their teaching content. Subsequently, synchronous and asynchronous activities utilizing these tools are proposed to foster interactive and hands-on learning, preparing students for the challenges of sustainability and circular economy. The conclusion highlights the challenges of aligning the findings from the selected articles with applications across different engineering contexts and modalities, emphasizing the critical role of teacher mediation in utilizing the suggested educational materials. It also reiterates the need to balance the teaching-learning process with the development of technical and behavioral competencies aimed at circularity and sustainability.
