Motivated by the dissemination of the academic production of researchers in the field of Distance Education, the EaD em Foco journal was officially created in 2010 and, since then, it has been published regularly, with an annual (until 2013), half-yearly (2014) and every four months (since 2015). As of 2018, the journal adopted the format of continuous publication (or rolling pass). In this modality, the articles are published as soon as they are approved, with the objective of further decreasing the communication time of scientific research.

Its first editor-in-chief was Fábio Alencar (2010), being replaced by Esteban Moreno (2011, so far), both from the Cecierj Foundation. Between 2014 and 2015, Professor Gabriella Dias de Oliveira (Antares Consultoria and UFRJ) also collaborated in this role, and from 2015 to 2020, Professor Luiz Gustavo Ribeiro Rolando (Cecierj Foundation).

The first visual identity (2010 to 2014) opted for a serif font, providing a more formal character.

The journal underwent graphic reform in mid-2014, receiving a new visual identity for the journal and the articles. In the same year, we also started to count on DOI as an indexer, being extended to all publications already made in the journal.

Until 2018, Revista EaD em Foco had the B1 classification in Qualis / CAPES in the area of EDUCATION. In 2019, she was nominated with Qualis A3 in the preliminary evaluation of Capes journals: Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel. According to the official document of Capes (Circular Letter No. 6/2019-CGAP / DAV / CAPES), the Revista EaD em Foco is among the most specialized DL journals among higher education institutions in Brazil and is at the highest level among journals with the same theme.

From 2018 to the present, we started to select some of the best published articles to be translated into English, without any burden for the authors.

As of 2019, in order to facilitate the Brazilian research public, the publication rules changed from the APA format to ABNT.

In 2020, we are celebrating the journal's decade of existence. To celebrate, in addition to updating our publishing system (OJS 3.x), we created a brand and a commemorative cover, as well as adjustments to the layout to highlight the achievement.

Since its foundation, the EaD em Foco journal has been growing steadily in all the main indexers (Google Scholar, Web of Science and Scopus). We continue to focus on the inclusion of the magazine in the DOAJ / Scielo system, which will increase its visibility on the national and global scene.
